You do not have to be a professional body builder to begin adding weight . Weight lifting is a gift to your future self. Adding weight lifting to your exercise routine will help protect bone health, maintain muscle mass, burn more calories (Yes!! even after your workout!). Weight lifting also helps you become stronger which reduces falls in old age and helps you develop better body mechanics to prevent injury. Adding a 15-20 weight training sessions 2-3 times per week will improve the shape of your body and amp up your weight loss results. Weight training can be done with using your body as resistance, or by adding bands, kettle bells and weights. If you do not know where to start begin doing 20 squats at your desk or in the morning before work then work up to more reps, frequency, and other exercises such as planks, pushups or burpees. You can also keep bands or water bottles in your desk drawers that can be used as dumbbells. A rule of thumb for beginners is to rest 1-2 days between weight training sessions, make sure to warm up before any exercise to avoid injuries and to take breaks 45-60 seconds between sets.
